The second annual Nordic Winter Race was held in Norway during the weekend of 17-19 March. The club Borg MRK was the organizer this year as well. The event was remembered as really fun last year with a really friendly atmosphere. This year was even better with a big, fast track with great traction and two separate halls for track and pitspace, so lots of room for the drivers.

When we arrived friday afternoon, the pits were already crowded. Two rounds of practice were about to be run on friday and the speaker Goran Langsholt welcomed us to the event. The race featured 19T, Modified and the Norwegian championships of 1:12 scale as well. LRP VTEC 27R preglued handout tires were used in touring car classes. Free motors including brushless was allowed in Modified.

During the first practice rounds, we find out that the carpet was really tricky, even during the first laps we traction rolled! This was nothing we had expected so major setup changes were needed. The first thing I did was putting in a front spool, this at least made the car driveable. Second thing was I put in thicker oil up front, went from 30 to 40. Then I added 1mm shim to the front width to make less traction roll.

I looked at Xray driver Helge Johannessens car and he did not suffer from traction roll as much, so I tried some bits from his setup including thicker swaybars and gluing the sidewalls of the front tires. The car was now close to perfect. During the first two qualifiers out of six, I was 2nd and 3rd, the car was fast but a little dangerous going over curbs. It became better however when traction increased so I could win 3 out of 6 rounds of qualifying and becoming TQ. Second was Tamiya/Peak driver Eirik Andreassen and third was Helge Johannessen with a T2.

For the finals, I did not change much except putting on new tires for final practice, this made the car more stable and even faster. I won the first main quite easy, but the second I had to fight back after a driving error and could win that one as well. I am very happy to win this race because it is same tires and conditions as upcoming LRP TCM in April, also to be sure that the LRP Brushless system is working perfectly was great to know. It had the most power and runtime, and with heatsink and fan, I had no overheating problems at all. Also, finally my friend Niclas Nilsson managed to finish 5th after a troublesome weekend. He was on for third place but made a mistake on the last lap of the third final and had to settle for 5th.

In the stock class, it was Trygve Berntsen from Norway who was thequickest during qualifying. His T2 was by far the most dialed car from the first practice with a setup optimal to these conditions. He had a close race with Xray driver Sigmund Øvereng during qualifying as well as Christer Anthonsen.

The finals was really tense with a lot of drivers being really fast. Finally, Trygve managed to take home the win in the last two finals in front of Swedish driver Christopher Södergren with his T2, who improved to 2nd place from 7th on the grid.

All I can say is great work from Team Xray and thank you Borg MRK for a great and well organized event this year as well.
